Here we are middle of October already! How many times have you found yourself saying "OMG" how time is flying! Well winter will be here before you know it so before the first snow my husband and I decided we would head west to see the leaves changing and visit my dad at the same time. Unless you ski, getting in and out of W.Va. before it starts to snow is just smart! The leaves right about now are changing into those glorious fall colors. A few years back we did the same thing around this same time. About half way to Pickens W.Va. where my dad lives is Deep Creek Lake. So we made reservations at a really cool hotel called Will O’ The Wisp. It's a little hotel tucked away in the trees right on the lake. Because they weren't full, they gave us a first floor walk out king size bedroom with a full kitchen. A little too warm to light up the fireplace, but they had one in the room and you could buy a fire log right at the front desk. We took our bathing suit and found that we had the huge pool and Jacuzzi hot tub all to ourselves. After a few laps and a great soak in the hot tub, we went back to our room to get ready for dinner. The lady at the front desk had us salivating over what she called the best restaurant in town and it just happened to be right on the main floor of our hotel. We could not resist taking a little stroll beneath the full moon right outside our door to take in the breath taking sight. The full harvest moon lit up the lake and the vibrant colors of the trees were reflecting across it like a path right to where we were standing. We walked out onto the swim platform that was floating on the crystal clear water. The night was crisp but pleasant and we didn't want this to end but we both were getting hungry. I'm not telling a fib when I say it was the best crab cake outside of the best one I've found in Ocean City which is at Captain's Galley in West O. Anyway our meal was awesome! We had a great bottle of wine to go with our meal which we corked and finished off back at the room. Our one night stay at Deep Creek Lake was a complete success. We’re going to do it again as we make our way across the rivers and over the mountains to get my huge hug from my "89" year "young" dad! The leaves are just now changing here so I am really anticipating that the further west we go, the more color we will see.
After a few days of visiting my dad and family we are off for 5 more hours of travel to a city we both have never been, Canton, Ohio! What, pray tell, is in Canton, Ohio that would get us to travel yet another five hours after driving six and a half to W.Va.? Well, my husband’s boyhood friend has asked his girlfriend to marry him and he gave up his awesome condo in Baltimore City to move in with her. Yes, he did; I know, "OMG." You don't even know him and I can just hear what you are saying - Canton, Ohio? What is in Canton, Ohio you ask? Well, the Football Hall of Fame and about an hour and a half away is Cleveland and the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Plans have already been made to take some time to go see the football memorabilia and I sure do hope we make time to go see the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, but I guess we will see.
The trip home should be interesting as I'm sure we both will be exhausted and ready to sleep in our own bed. This will be the first time John and I have gone on a road trip of this magnitude! Did someone say magnitude? If you all feel an earthquake while we’re out of town and on the road, that will be us! Wish us luck ! I'm Just Sayin’!
