The staff at De Lazy Lizard makes sure each and every customer has a fun-filled time.
The perfect location—de Lazy Lizard on the waterfront of 1st Street boasts palm trees swaying in the gentle warm breeze, direct sunset views on Ocean City’s legendary bayfront, a fun-filled children’s area with a pirate ship playground, and plenty of adult fun too.
Happy hour specials bring crowds to the indoor and outdoor bar areas, where deejays play and live bands strum classic and modern rock hits that frequently inspire sing alongs. Playful adults and kids are welcome to enjoy free corn hole matches. Happy couples enjoy service at waterfront, two-seater Adirondack chairs with a table. Boaters are welcome to take advantage of plenty of boat parking. And, de Lazy Lizard features multiple parking areas for cars, as well.
Coconut Times was in the house at de Lazy Lizard this week enjoying a sunset dinner on the bayfront. So much is happening at the bar and restaurant. Parties of 10 were seated on the waterfront immediately after checking in at the hostess stand. Tourists were browsing through T-shirts and clearance racks at the merchandise stand. Two rockers were mashing up Foreigner and Mumford & Sons while the happy hour crowd danced in the bay breeze.
We were happy to see our server, Nick, who is working his third consecutive summer at de Lazy Lizard.  It’s evident that the staff at de Lizard loves their jobs. What a fun place to work every day! Nick told us that the fresh catch of the day was Mahi Mahi, served grilled or blackened. He politely took our drink orders. We sampled de Lizard’s signature drink—Watermelon Crush. This fresh, fruity, squeezed summer refreshment is the ultimate thirst quencher.
After perusing the Appetizers menu, we settled on two favorites: Mahi Mahi Fingers and Sesame Encrusted Seared Tuna. Served with homemade tartar sauce, the fresh Mahi Mahi Fingers are fried and lip-licking good. The seared medium tuna encrusted with sesame seeds is served on a plate big enough to share.
We devoured our seafood appetizers, and then moved to the Platters menu for our main course. We couldn’t resist ordering the Crab Cakes—fresh homemade jumbo lump crab cakes with Aunt Lili’s famous Ocean City crab cake recipe. de Lazy Lizard’s house specialty is Baby Back Ribs, which are slow cooked, fall off the bone, baby back ribs smothered in homemade BBQ sauce.  A crowd-pleasing platter at the restaurant is off-the-boat Flounder, served broiled or fried with tarter sauce. For bigger appetites, de Lizard serves slow roasted Half Chicken, and Charred Ribeye Steak, hand cut and rubbed in house seasoning. Fried Shrimp and Fried Oysters round off the Platters selections, which are served with your choice of two sides: Fries, Applesauce, Broccoli Slaw, Vegetable du jour, Shells & Cheese, and Sidewinder Fries. We opted for generous portions of the potato wedge Sidewinder Fries and Homemade Shells & Cheese with our Crab Cakes.
From the Sandwiches menu, I highly recommend the Fish Tacos. Two flour tortillas with seasoned fresh mahi mahi, diced tomatoes, and slaw, the Fish Tacos are served with margherita mayo on the side. The Shorebilly Grilled Cheese sandwich is crab dip, tomato, bacon, and cheddar cheese on Texas toast. The Tuna Steak Sandwich is fresh off the boat, while the Crabby Chicken sandwich is a six-ounce chicken breast topped with homemade creamy crab dip and melted cheddar cheese. An exceptionally hearty sandwich, the Cuban is roasted pork, ham, melted Swiss cheese, pickles, yellow mustard, and mayo on cibatta bread. Shrimp Salad, Chicken Salad, and Turkey BLT Wrap are just a few more of many sandwich selections at de Lazy Lizard.
de Lazy Lizard’s Tavern Burger is piled with applewood smoked bacon, cheddar cheese, and sunny-side-up egg on a toasted English muffin. The Hog Burger is topped with slow cooked pork BBQ.
Some other delicious appetizers on the menu at de Lazy Lizard are Crab Dip, Steamed Shrimp, and Smoked Tuna. “Lizard Logs” are large, hand cut mozzarella cheese logs breaded and served with marinara sauce. Served with ranch or blue cheese dip, jumbo Wings are prepared to your liking—mild, hot, Old Bay, or sweet soy & sesame. de Lazy Lizard’s homemade Nachos are piled high with heaping mounds of chicken, chili, cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, onions, and fresh jalapeños. Have you ever tried fried pickles? de Lazy Lizard hand breads pickle spears, fries them golden brown, and serves them with siracha mayonnaise. If you like French Fries, you’ll love de Lazy Lizard’s Rosemary Fries—beach cut fries tossed in olive oil, rosemary, garlic, and Parmesan cheese—and the Crabby Cheese Sidewinder Fries, which are topped with homemade creamy crab dip, cheese, and Old Bay.
de Lazy Lizard also serves healthy Soups and Salads, with an Eastern Shore flare. A local waterman supplies fresh Cream of Crab Soup, and the restaurant’s Maryland Crab Soup hails from an old Eastern Shore family recipe with a mix of hearty vegetables and fresh crabmeat. Tuna, shrimp, or chicken can be added to any salad. Try the Charred Shrimp Salad for a bed of spinach with strawberries and charred shrimp, served with Caribbean mango vinaigrette. The Wedge Salad is iceberg wedge topped with tomatoes, bacon, and bleu cheese dressing. I recommend the Baja Brown Rice Salad topped with charred chicken breast, avocado, tomato, and homemade black bean and corn salsa.
de Lazy Lizard offers an array of Baskets selections, including Fish & Chips, Fried Oysters, Fried Shrimp, Fried Clam Strips, and Chicken Tenders. Served with fries, baskets are perfect for sharing.
de Lazy Lizard is open every day at 11 AM. Happy Hour takes place Monday through Friday from 3-6 PM. The bar and restaurant welcomes Tuna Tournament anglers to de Lazy Lizard, where “Zig” performs live music in the Tiki bar from 2-6 PM on Friday, July 11, and “3 Sheets Acoustic” performs from 9 PM until midnight. On Saturday, July 12, catch Darren Francis McDowell from 2-6 PM, followed by Broad Street. Keri K-Glo, Ryan Jackson, Wes Davis, Blake Haley, Chris Button, DJ Jeremy, Ray Holiday, and the famous Great Train Robbery are other musicians on tap this week at de Lazy Lizard.
