Located in the newly constructed 67th Street Town Center, the Longboard Café is a delightful combination of surfer vibe and fresh ingredients. Visitors staying within walking distance of the restaurant are highly likely to eat at the Longboard Café several times during their stay. This week, we visited the two-level bar and restaurant with indoor and outdoor seating, and were very impressed by the surf music, delicious recipes, and knowledgeable staff.
Everything at the café is new, from the outdoor wooden deck to the tables, chairs, and décor. As another lovely sunset was descending on the bayside skyline, we approached the hostess stand. Bartender Sean greeted us and handed us the new Fall Menu. Longboard Café features excellent Fall Specials throughout the week. From Tuesday through Friday, enjoy a two-course pre-fixed lunch menu from 11:00 AM until 4:00 PM. On each Sunday, Longboard Café serves an extended brunch from 10:30 AM until 4 PM. Beginning at 6 PM on every Tuesday, take advantage of a three-course pre-fixed dinner menu. Wednesday nights offer progressive discounts, meaning your savings percentage increases as the number of people in your party grows. Discounts range from 10 percent off for couples, to 30 percent for parties of six or more. Thursday is the ultimate date night, featuring half-priced appetizers and bottles of wine.
An example of a fresh, tempting appetizer on the menu is Figs in a Blanket, which are figs stuffed with goat cheese and wrapped in applewood bacon. Fried Green Tomatoes are topped with lump crab and Creole mustard sauce. Try the Crab Stuffed Artichoke Bottoms, which are bursting with lump crabmeat and topped with imperial sauce. This dish is top quality, and highly recommended. Warm Chips & Queso Blanco, and Brie & Drunken Nuts, are just a couple more munchies for the table, along with Crab Quesadilla and Grilled Lamb Chop Lollypops.
For our main dish, we ordered the soft Pollo Tacos. Achiote marinated chicken is paired with grilled onions and peppers, sliced avocado, cheddar-jack cheese, cilantro, pico de gallo, and sour cream. All ingredients are fresh, and we truly enjoyed the tacos. Another delectable taco on the menu at Longboard Café is Baja Fish—beer battered fresh cod, shredded cabbage, pico de gallo, Mexican white sauce, roasted tomato salsa, and lime wedges. Steak Fajita, Jerk Mahi, and Pacific Pulled Pork round off the Taco selections, which are served in quantities of three. Add fresh guacamole to your order. It’s fresh and lip-licking good.
Longboard Café also has entrée-size salads with housemade dressings. The Tuna, Crab, and Avocado Tower is quickly gaining popularity among Ocean City locals. Sushi grade Tuna tartar, crab salad, sliced avocado, cucumber, grape tomatoes, field greens, and tomato vinaigrette comprise this locally-renowned dish. Grilled Caesar, Baja Steak Chopped, “My Big Fat Greek,” and Huntington Pier Cobb are other over-sized salad selections. Try the St. Croix Chopped for grilled chicken, tomatoes, blue cheese, bacon, Granny Smith apples, roasted corn, macadamia nuts, chopped greens, and honey-lime vinaigrette.
We asked our server about the top-selling entrées at Longboard Café. She instantly answered, “Duck Duck!” Sliced duck breast is glazed with raspberry-jalapeno glacé and served with duck leg comfit hash. The Seafood Pasta is divine—linguini, avocado cream sauce, lump crab, and pan seared shrimp and scallops. The Longboard Café’s Grilled Baseball Filet is an eight-ounce center cut of Certified Angus Beef sirloin with Madeira demi glacé and sliced portabella. Add a small crab cake and grilled shrimp with remoulade to make it Surf, Turf, ‘n Surf.
The fresh fish selections of the day can be prepared tropical with grilled pineapple salsa and vanilla bean and rum buerre blanc; Mediterranean style with roasted tomatoes, artichoke hearts, capers, fresh lemon, wine, and garlic jus; Pan-Asian style with ginger curry broth, wild mushrooms, and greens; or “Just Fish Please” broiled or oven roasted with a little seasoning, butter, and fresh lemon.
If you love burgers, Longboard Café has something extra special for you. Its half-pound burgers are hand-pattied and made with a blend of premium ground chunk, brisket, and short rib, served on baked buns by Touch of Italy. Try the Longboard Burger for spicy-sweet bacon, horseradish cheddar cheese, lettuce, red onion, and medium fried egg. One dollar from each sale of this burger is donated to the Ocean City Surf Club. The Piggyback Burger is topped with beer-marinated pulled pork, bacon, homemade BBQ sauce, and mustard slaw. Turkey Burger and Bacon Black & Blue are just a few more of many burger selections at Longboard Café.
Paninis, Wraps, and Sandwiches are also available at Longboard Café. Try the Ahi Burger for seared sushi grade tuna steak with ginger-wasabi aioli and Asian slaw. The Elegant Turkey Panini is house-baked turkey, Granny Smith apples, Brie, roasted garlic, and onion jam. Grilled Portabella, Pulled Pork, and Longboard Steak Sammy are just a few more sandwiches. Try the Day After Thanksgiving Sandwich for house baked turkey breast, apple & sage sausage stuffing, mayo, and cranberry sauce on warm brioche bread. Or, try the Powerhouse Wrap for avocado, sprouts, sliced cucumbers, tomato, carrots, zucchini, bell peppers, field greens, shredded jack, creamy cucumber dressing, herb, and garlic.
We perused the full-service bar menu for specialty cocktails, and were pleased to find several local brews on tap. Burley Oak, Flying Dog, Evolution, De Lazy Lizard, and Finn City Brewing Company products are available by the pint or pitcher. Longboard Café also serves an impressive list of wines, such as La Crema Chardonnay and Molly Dooker “The Boxer” Shiraz, as well as Margaritas, Crushes, Mojitos, and Martinis.
