Stop by the Talbot Street Pier in downtown Ocean City and say hello to the smiling staff at M.R. Ducks.

M.R. Ducks Bar & Grille
This fun-loving group from Silver Spring, Maryland, ordered a round of “Chug A Ducks” at M.R. Ducks.
A gazebo-style bar and restaurant over the water at the Talbot Street Pier, M.R. Ducks is the ideal location to cherish sunset views and enjoy a cool bay breeze. The downtown bar and grille is serving a new menu this summer, featuring fresh seafood, burgers, and more. Easy to find by boat, car, bike, or on foot, M.R. Ducks remains my favorite bayside restaurant for happy hour and sunset. Indeed, when I visited M.R. Ducks this week with my partner in crime, Stacey Payne, we noted several customers whipping out their cameras to capture the gorgeous sunset sky over the bay.
Always smiling, beautiful bartender Katie greeted us and reviewed the new menu items. Of course we were encouraged to order whatever we wanted, but the kitchen manager, Dave, highly recommended that we start our meal with Crab Balls and Jumbo Lump Crab Cocktail appetizers. We followed his advice, and the Jumbo Lump Crab Cocktail certainly lives up to its name. A mountain of the most delicious jumbo lump crabmeat is served hot or cold, sprinkled with a generous amount of Old Bay seasoning, and accompanied by cocktail sauce and melted butter for dipping. If you love crab cakes, this pound of jumbo lump crabmeat will not disappoint. It is scrumptious to the very last forkful, and it’s nothing but meat. The Crab Balls were equally satisfying, adding an extra zest to our first course.
Of course, M.R. Ducks is world famous for its “C.M. Wangs,” which are available in a variety of flavors, including mild, hot, Old Bay, garlic and butter, Thai chili, and mango habenero. From the steamer, you may order a half-pound of steamed shrimp or a baker’s dozen of steamed Middleneck clams. Chicken Tenders, Buffalo Chicken Tenders, crispy French Fries, and Brew City Onion Rings are all affordable crowd pleasers. Scallops wrapped in Bacon are a local favorite, and Crab Dip is served in a bread bowl with crackers.
M.R. Ducks offers baskets of hot dogs, chicken tenders, and fish and chips. All baskets are served with a pile of crispy fries and cookies for under $11. Try the Thai Chili Popcorn Shrimp basket for a perfect blend of sweet and spicy. Or, select the Buffalo Popcorn Shrimp with bleu cheese to spice up your meal. Looking for healthy options? M.R. Ducks’ garden salad tastes great topped with lump crabmeat, grilled chicken, or fresh tuna. Ask your server about the Catch of the Day for a fresh fish sandwich.
Stacey and I followed Dave’s advice and ordered Shrimp Salad Sandwich and Black and Bleu Burger for our second course. A family recipe that is made fresh daily, the Shrimp Salad Sandwich is served on a potato roll. Just the right amount of Old Bay seasoning makes the sandwich lip-smacking good. Presented on a toasted sourdough bun, the Black and Bleu Burger is blackened and topped with melted bleu cheese and bacon. Stacey and I cut each colossal sandwich in half, and shared everything. Other spectacular, half-pound, premium beef burgers on the M.R. Ducks menu include Bacon Cheese Burger and Surf and Turf Burger, which is topped with crab dip, bacon, and cheddar cheese.
Seafood lovers should order the handmade Crab Cake Sandwich or the Crabby Chicken Sandwich, which is topped with crab dip, bacon, and cheddar cheese. The Crab Cake Club is also topped with cheddar and bacon. New on the menu, the Soft Shell Crab Sandwich is one of my favorites. Or, try the Eastern Shore Grilled Chicken for a hearty combination of bacon, cheddar cheese, and bbq sauce. Got the munchies? Captain’s Cheese Fries are mixed with an irresistible blend of melted cheddar, Monterey Jack, chopped bacon, and ranch dressing. The Jalapeño Pretzel is another satisfying snack, which is new on the menu.
The food at M.R. Ducks is enjoyable, the view is stunning, and the drink specials and entertainment lineup are also impressive. Happy Hour takes place Monday through Thursday from 4 to 7 pm. Enjoy low prices on wine, rail drinks, and buckets of 7-ounce beers. For those of you with an adventurous spirit, try the “Chug a Duck,” a daring blend of beer and Amaretto, chugged out of a hollow duck decoy.
Each Tuesday from 7-9 pm, compete for prizes during Barstool Fishing tournaments, which are free and open to all ages. Awards include best male, female, and junior angler. M.R. Ducks will provide bait and fishing rods. Adults are invited to embark on the Duckaneer Swashbuckling Sunset Cruise every Wednesday at 7 pm throughout the summer. Enjoy music and drinks aboard the Duckaneer Pirate Ship. On Thursdays from 7 to 9 pm, indulge in half-priced bottles of wine and acoustic music. Each Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, from 4 to 9 pm, enjoy the best party in town during M.R. Ducks “Duck Parties.” The deck becomes a dance floor as some of the region’s most popular rock bands entertain the crowd.
Coming up this week at M.R. Ducks, local celebrity Kevin Poole takes the stage on Friday, July 9; All Together Spent rocks the house on Saturday, July 11; and Bird Dog & The Road Kings appears on Friday, July 16. Bring the whole family and enjoy outdoor deck seating all day long. While you’re at M.R. Ducks, visit the gift shop, which offers apparel and souvenirs, boasting the M.R. Ducks logo and riddle. “L.I.B. M.R. Ducks.” I’ll see you there for best bites and beautiful sunsets over the bay.
