Just like being on a boat, the gazebo-style restaurant presents glorious views of the sunset.

Katie, Chris, Kandace, and Ali let the good times roll at M.R. Ducks.

M.R. Ducks is the closest you can get to dining on a boat, without actually being on a boat. Located on the Talbot Street Pier waterfront, next to the Route 50 Bridge, the gazebo-style bar and restaurant sits over the water and presents the most stunning view of the bay and sunset. The atmosphere alone is reason enough to visit M.R. Ducks, not to mention its delicious wings, sandwiches, and lump crabmeat cocktail.
Friendly bartenders serve up buckets of beer and “chug-a-duck” specialty drinks, while Duck Parties start at 4 p.m. on each Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Happy Hour takes place from 4-7 p.m. on Monday through Thursday, and you’ll never pay a cover charge at M.R. Ducks. This weekend, dance on the docks to the rockin’ sounds of Rob Byer Band on Friday, July 22, Klassixs on Saturday, July 23, and Tranzfusion on Sunday, July 24. All bands perform from 4-9 p.m. Wine, imports, domestics, and rail drinks are all discounted during happy hour, along with pizza, steamed clams, and steamed shrimp.
I visited M.R. Ducks this week with my best buddy, Ceil Sheetz. We were delighted to see a familiar face—Katie—behind the bar. We sat at the best table under the gazebo, front-and-center over the bay, and were mesmerized by the glorious sunset reflecting on the water. Our cheerful server, Ali, greeted us and made several menu recommendations. She told us that the Fish & Chips—breaded rockfish fingers with fries—is a best selling basket at M.R. Ducks. She also suggests her two favorite homemade recipes, which are Shrimp Salad and Crab Cakes—served plain, on a salad or sandwich, or club-style with bacon and cheddar cheese. Ali also recommends the Old Bay Wings and Crabby Chicken sandwich—chicken breast topped with crab dip, bacon and cheddar cheese.
Ceil and I decided to begin our meal with an order of Old Bay Wings and Jumbo Lump Crab Cocktail. Given the choice of hot or cold, we took Ali’s advice and ordered our Jumbo Lump Crab Cocktail hot with melted butter. We ate every last forkful of chunky lump crabmeat, dipped in savory melted butter. Although I rarely eat spicy buffalo wings, the extra-crispy Old Bay Wings were my favorite part of the entire meal. “These are the best wings in Ocean City,” said Ceil, who is a buffalo wings connoisseur. At M.R. Ducks, the “C.M. Wangs” are available in nine flavors: naked, mild, hot, old bay, garlic butter, BBQ, mango habanero, and Thai chili.
For our main course, Ceil ordered the best-selling Fish & Chips basket and I selected the homemade Shrimp Salad sandwich. The fresh, breaded rockfish fingers are served in a basket with fries and giant goldfish graham cracker cookies. Other baskets at M.R. Ducks include Chicken Tenders, Coconut Shrimp, and two grilled Hot Dogs.
The refreshing Shrimp Salad sandwich is bursting with jumbo shrimp and seasonings, and served with lettuce, fresh seasonal tomato slices, and potato chips. Other sandwiches from the grill include BBQ, Softshell Crab, Buffalo Chicken, and Tex Mex Grilled Chicken. The burgers at M.R. Ducks are a half-pound of premium beef available with bacon and cheese, blackened with bleu cheese and bacon, or topped with crab dip, bacon and cheddar cheese. The house specialty sandwich at M.R. Ducks is the Fresh Fish sandwich, which is locally caught and prepared grilled, blackened, or fried.
The restaurant’s steamer menu includes shrimp and clams. Other appetizers are Thai Shrimp, Chicken Tenders, Coconut Shrimp, handmade Crab Balls, beer-battered Onion Rings, and Scallops Wrapped with Bacon. The Crab Dip is served in an edible bread bowl with crackers, and the Buffalo Chicken Tenders are tossed in spicy buffalo sauce and served with chunky bleu cheese for dipping. Fries are available plain, seasoned with old bay, or topped with melted cheddar, Monterey jack, chopped bacon, and ranch dressing. A unique recipe, the Jalapeño Pretzel is made with soft jalapeño dough and filled with pepper jack cheese.
M.R. Ducks also makes a Garden Salad, which may be topped with grilled chicken, jumbo lump crabmeat, or grilled fish of the day. For the ducklings, M.R. Ducks features a children’s menu with cheese pizza, peanut butter and jelly, hot dog and fries, and chicken fingers and fries.
M.R. Ducks provides plenty of free boat docking. A bike rack and valet parking is also available. Bring your family to M.R. Ducks for lunch or dinner, and indulge in a narrated nature cruise on the Assateague Adventure or a speedboat ride aboard the OC Rocket. Kids love the Duckaneer pirate treasure voyage. Fishing charters are also offered at the Talbot Street Pier. For more information, visit .
While you’re at M.R. Ducks, stop into the merchandise shop for apparel, hats, toys, books, DVDs, decoys, gift cards, pillows, wall hangings, and more. Much of the merchandise features the M.R. Ducks poem. Do you know it? Said with an eastern shore accent, the poem is:
Guy One: “M.R. Ducks”
Guy Two: M.R. Not”
Guy One: “O.S.A.R. C.M. Wangs”
Guy Two: “L.I.B. M.R. Ducks”
The food is finger-licking good, the view is impeccable, and the staff is super friendly. Stop into M.R. Ducks today, and you’ll surely agree, “O.S.A.R.”
