If youre in the mood for an elegant, flavorful dining experience, try Yangs Palace on 54th Street and Coastal Highway. Specializing in Chinese and Indian recipes, the bright and classy establishment is a guaranteed best bite. In addition to scrumptious recipes, the staff is extraordinarily professional and friendly, and the presentation of each dish is top notch. The first thing that caught my eye when I rounded the corner from the hostess stand into the expansive dining room was the wall of windows. Located on the second floor with plenty of free parking underneath, the restaurant offers an impressive view of Ocean Citys skyline. The polite hostess led my wonderful mom, Nancy, and me to a raised booth adjacent to the windows. Oriental fans, dividers, and lighting complement the open space and tabletops, while curved booths invite you to sit down and relax.
Well known for its irresistible Chinese food, the restaurant now offers Indian cuisine, too. Prepared in a clay oven, the Tandoori Chicken is marinated overnight in yogurt and mild aromatic spices and broiled over hickory charcoal. The Shrimp, Chicken, Beef, and Lamb Tikka are each marinated in a special recipe and barbecued. House Specials and Bread and Rice recipes, like Onion Kulchawhite flour bread stuffed with spicy onionsand Lachha Parataflaky layered breadare other items on the new Indian menu.
When I opened the menu, I immediately noticed one of my favorite Chinese hot appetizers on the menuCrab Rangoon. When our attentive server asked for our drink selections, I placed my order for the crabmeat mixed with cream cheese and wrapped in crispy wonton skin. Served with both a hot mustard and sweet and sour sauce, the 6-piece appetizer is nearly filling enough to order as a meal. Nancy had never tried Crab Rangoon before, and the delicious aroma from the hot plate grabbed her attention even before she sampled her first bite. She loved it! Shrimp Egg Roll, Crispy Beef Spring Roll, Szechuan Spicy Tangy Dumpling, Steamed or Pan-fried Meat Dumpling, and Barbecued Shrimp or Spare Ribs are other delectable hot appetizers on the menu. Plus, the Teriyaki Beef on Skewer is brought to the table over a fire stand. Indeed, elaborate presentation is a key ingredient at Yangs Palace.
Other starter dishes on the menu include Cold Sesame Noodles, Hot & Sour Cabbage, and an array of soupslike Hot & Sour, Egg Drop, Meat Wonton, Asparagus & Crabmeat, and Seafood Medley. As you browse through the immense menu, youll notice that seafood is a popular ingredient in many selections. For instance, the Yangs Palace Chefs Recommendations features Crispy Scallop, which is sweet sea scallops deep fried and garnished with vegetables and sweet & sour sauce. The Fruits of the Sea in a Nest entre is sea scallops, jumbo shrimp, broccoli, cauliflower, snow peas, water chestnuts, red pepper, and black mushroom in white sauce; and the Chili Lobster contains fresh lobster chunks sauted in snow peas, red pepper, onion, water chestnuts, and hot spices. If all of these options make your mouth water, try the Seafood Combinationlobster, scallop, shrimp, and crabmeat stir-fried with broccoli, cauliflower, snow pea, water chestnuts, baby corn, red pepper, and mushroom in white sauce. Also under the Chefs Recommendations, meat lovers delight in a variety of Chicken, Beef, Duck, and Steak dishes prepared Crispy or in Sesame or Orange flavored sauce. Rainbow New York Steak and Peking Duckserved with Mandarin pancakes, scallion, & sweet hosing sauceare two more renowned selections, just to name a few.
For our entrees, I ordered Sweet & Sour Shrimp and Mom ordered Pat & Paos Shrimp. My lightly battered shrimp were stir-fried with onion, green pepper, pineapple chunks, and carrots in sweet & sour sauce, and my plate was so elaborately decorated that it was almost too pretty to eat. Mom requested that her jumbo shrimpwhich were sauted with cashew nuts & peanuts, red & green pepper, baby corn, and water chestnuts in the chefs special brown spicy saucebe prepared mild, rather than hot & spicy. The chef was happy to oblige.
Spicy items on the menu can be altered to your taste, so each dish is sure to pleasenot too mild, not too hot. A full list of Chicken, Seafood, Beef & Lamb, and Pork options offer something to satisfy every palate. Classic Chinese dishes, like Kung Pao, General Tsos, and Sweet & Sour Chicken and Shrimp fill the menu, plus you must try creative concoctions like Whole Fish in Black Bean Sauce, Sha Cha Lamb with Fresh Spinach, and Moo Shi Porkshredded pork with napa cabbage, carrot, woodear, mushroom, egg stir-fried, and sweet hoisin sauce.
What else is on the menu at Yangs Palace? Under Vegetarians Corner youll find Fresh String Bean Szechuan Style, General Tsos Fried Bean Curd, Stir-fried Fresh Spinach, and more. Under the Fried Rice & Lo Mein menu, which is a locals favorite, youll see your choice of beef, chicken, or roast pork served with fried rice or lo mein style. And, you can order Pan-fried Noodles with vegetables and beef, chicken, roast pork, shrimp, or combination. All dinner entrees are served with steamed rice. Frozen and exotic tropical drinks, a wine list, and domestic and imported beer top off the menu. Of course, desserts are available, too, like Crispy Sesame Banana, ice cream, and cake.
