Our server, Ryan, aka DJ Fast Eddie (on right) grabbed four other fun-loving employees for a quick photo in front of the sunset at BJ's On The Water.

BJ's On The Water
Visiting Ocean City from Long Island, New York, sisters of the Tobin, Knapp, and Himberger families have been customers of BJ's On The Water for 20 years.
How do I sum up my dining experience at BJ’s On The Water? Delicious seafood, fun servers, picturesque water view, breezy ceiling fans, and full blast air conditioning! The restaurant’s indoor dining room and raw bar sit directly on the bay. Customers experience the best of both worlds—gorgeous water views from the comfort of a cool indoor space. Of course, if you prefer to sweat it out, BJ’s also offers a large deck with umbrellas and tables on the bay.
I visited BJ’s On the Water on 75th Street on Monday night this week with my favorite arm candy, Kristi Kruger. We walked through the happy hour crowd at the lively bar, past the pleasant raw bar, which was jam-packed, and into the open dining room. With countless large tabletops, BJ’s is equipped to accommodate large groups and families. Kristi and I sat at a table in the middle of the restaurant, which features panoramic views of the bay and wetlands. We were just in time to watch the sunset over the water, and we were relieved that the air conditioning was running full force.
Our server, Ryan, introduced himself and welcomed us to BJ’s. A veteran BJ’s employee for several years, he is also known as DJ Fast Eddie, who plays gigs at bars and events throughout Ocean City and the Delaware Beaches, including the Annual Canoe Races at BJ’s On The Water. Ryan described the daily specials, which included the Fresh Catch of the Day—Mahi Mahi, stuffed with Crab Imperial, and a 16-ounce T-Bone Steak with two side items. Cream of Crab was the soup of the day, and Corn with Roasted Red Pepper was the Vegetable of the Day. The heat index had climbed to 105 degrees, so a frozen Banana Daiquiri was the perfect drink of the day.
We asked Ryan which appetizers are the top sellers at BJ’s, and he recommended the Seafood Skins, Pizzette Crab Imperial, and Sorry Charlie—smoked tuna dip served with multigrain crackers. The Crab Dip is another winning appetizer, and the Feta Fusion is a unique dish that you won’t find on any other menu. Roasted feta cheese, red peppers, and black olives tossed with Greek oregano, extra virgin olive oil, and cracked black pepper, the Feta Fusion spread with multigrain crackers was irresistible to Kristi and me. Additionally, we ordered Clams Casino. Top neck clams topped with garlic butter, seasoned breading, bacon, and melted provolone cheese is one of my all-time favorite seafood appetizers, and believe me, BJ’s On The Water serves the best Clams Casino in town. The juicy treat slides right out of the shell—nothing tough about it. Other tasty appetizers on the menu are Coconut Shrimp Skewers and Shrimp Jammers (red pepper chili stuffed with shrimp and pepper jack cheese), and BJ’s also serves classic munchies like Fries, Wings, Chicken Fingers, and more. The Raw Bar attracts tons of hungry customers, too, with delectable clams and oysters.
BJ’s has an extensive salad menu, with items like Salmon Salad, Steak Caesar, Chicken Salad, and Caesar Salad topped with citrus grilled Gulf Shrimp. BJ’s Signature Seafood Salad Platter includes shrimp, scallops, and sea legs. Any salad, including the Greek and Chef Salad, can be topped with Salmon, Scallops, Crab Cake, Tuna, Coconut Shrimp, Gulf Shrimp, or Teriyaki Chicken Breast.
Kristi and I asked Ryan to suggest the best entrees at BJ’s, and he recommended the Fresh Catch of the Day, Crab Cakes, and Jumbo Lump Crab Imperial. The New York Strip Special—a sizzling center cut of 12-ounce aged western beef with a secret blend of seasonings, char-grilled to order—is ideal for meat lovers. Feel like spoiling yourself? Try the Stuffed Lobster Tail Special. Topped with homemade basil tomato sauce and flash fried gulf shrimp, the Pasta BJ’s is served with garlic bread and a garden salad. Shrimp Imperial, Shrimp and Scallops, and Stuffed Filet of Flounder are hearty entrée options as well. Each entrée is served with your choice of two sides: fries, baked potato, applesauce, Cole slaw, or house salad. Kristi opted for the Seafood Medley: a broiled combination of flounder, crab cake, shrimp, scallops, and clams casino. I ordered the Chicken and Shrimp Teriyaki: a whole chicken breast and shrimp skewer marinated in teriyaki sauce and served over a bed of rice with tropical fruit cocktail. My dish was delicious. The sweet-flavored shrimp perfectly balance the meaty chicken and wild rice zest. Kristi devoured her Seafood Medley in record-breaking time. We both ordered the house salad and applesauce for our sides. By the end of our meal, we were both too stuffed to order dessert. BJ’s owner, Billy Carder, stopped by our table several times during our meal to say hello and make sure every part of our dining experience was satisfying.
BJ’s On The Water also offers an extensive sandwich menu. My mom and I frequently eat at BJ’s, and we rave about the Black Russian—a combination of turkey, roast beef, Swiss, and lettuce on pumpernickel topped with Russian dressing. Another popular sandwich is BJ’s Famous Razorback: hot ham, tomato, and mushrooms topped with melted Swiss on 12 grain toast with tarter sauce and lettuce. Turkey, Pork Barbeque, Chicken Salad, and Seafood Salad Wrap are mouthwatering options on BJ’s sandwich menu. Salmon BLT, Mega Crab Cake, Grilled Yellowfin Tuna, Fish Filet, Chicken Breast, Club, and Hot Pastrami round off the sandwich menu. Burgers include the Mega one-pound Angus beef burger and the Chipolte Black Bean Burger, a healthy alternative.
BJ’s On The Water’s owner, Maddy, hand makes many of the desserts on the menu. Peanut Butter Pie is a must try. Chocolate Volcano, Chocolate Sundae, White Chocolate Macadamia Divine, and homemade Ice Cream Sandwich are more sweet temptations. Specialty wines and frosty frozen specialties are other after-dinner treats. Happy Hour at BJ’s takes place Monday through Friday from 4-7 p.m., when food and drink specials abound. Live entertainment keeps the dance floor packed year-round on Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday at 9 p.m. BJ’s never charges a cover fee. The restaurant is kid-friendly with duck feeding daily at 1 p.m. The menu is served from 11 a.m. until 1:30 a.m. Call 410-524-7575 or visit <> for more information. As the menu proclaims, “One cannot live well, love well, or think well, until one has dined well.”
