BJ’s on the Water
The dining room is remodeled, but the fabulous view is still the same at BJ’s on the Water as you see behind the friendly and efficient staff.
BJ’s on the Water
Louis Armstrong’s “What a Wonderful World” is the daily soundtrack at BJ’s on the Water during the stunning sunset.
BJ’s on the Water
Managers Jason, Jeremy, and Nikki welcome guests to BJ’s on the Water at 75th Street and the Bay.

Still the same? Not exactly. Celebrating its 34th year in business, BJ’s on the Water has undergone a complete makeover. Swing by 75th Street & the Bay to check out the dining room’s new contemporary design, including new tables, slate walls, modern ceiling fans and light fixtures, booths, and tall table tops with amazing views. In fact, one feature of BJ’s that will always remain the same is it’s unbeatable, unparalleled, panoramic bay view.  BJ’s location is the ideal vantage point for taking in the sunset over the bay while ducks, herons and other wildlife frolic in an impressive bird sanctuary. Enjoy this fabulous view year-round from the comfort of the indoor dining room, from the serene observation deck, or from the expansive outdoor dining deck.
Another main attraction at BJ’s on the Water is its tantalizing seafood menu. The restaurant is participating in Ocean City Restaurant Week, offering prix fixe, three-course lunch and dinner entrees. Delectable options include Maryland Crab Soup, Seafood Salad Wrap, NY Strip Steak, Crab Imperial, Chicken and Shrimp Teriyaki, and Maddy’s Famous Peanut Butter Pie—just to name a few.
We had a terrific three-course dinner at BJ’s on the Water last Sunday. We arrived at 6:30, just in time to bask in the glory of the jaw-dropping sunset. The manager with a pretty smile, Nikki, sat us at a new tall tabletop in front of a wall of waterfront windows.  Longtime BJ’s customers, Joey and I were in awe of the upgrades in the dining room. We were also pleased to see our favorite “starters” remain on the menu, including Feta Fusion—roasted feta cheese, red peppers, black olives, Greek oregano, extra virgin olive oil, and cracked black pepper, served with multigrain crackers. We were eager to try the Seafood Skins, which several friends have recommended. Topped with shrimp, scallops, crabmeat, and melted cheddar cheese, the Seafood Skins look like heaps of crab imperial piled high on potato skins. We ordered this delicious concoction, and enjoyed every bite. Our friendly server, Joan, also served us the Pizzette Crab Imperial. Garlic and cheese white pizza is topped with crab imperial. I also recommend this starter dish.
For our main entrees, we ordered the Stuffed Filet of Flounder, oven baked with lump crabmeat and topped with imperial sauce. This was my favorite dish. We also tried the Fresh Catch of the Day, Mako, prepared Cajun style. Other delectable seafood entrees on the menu at BJ’s on the Water are Shrimp Imperial, Stuffed Lobster Tail, Breaded Colossal Gulf Shrimp, Twin Crab Cakes, and Seafood Medley—broiled combination of flounder, crab cake, deviled crab, shrimp, and clam casino.
BJ’s Ravioli is stuffed with five Italian cheeses, and Pasta BJ’s is tossed with flash fried gulf shrimp and served with garlic bread and garden salad. Order the Stuffed Surf and Turf for a 12-ounce New York Strip Steak, char grilled to order, and a 12-ounce Lobster Tail with lump crabmeat and imperial sauce.
BJ’s is famous for its signature sandwiches, too, including the Black Russian with turkey, roast beef, Swiss cheese, lettuce, and Russian dressing on pumpernickel bread, and BJ’s Famous Razorback—hot ham, tomato, and mushrooms, melted Swiss cheese, lettuce, and tarter sauce on 12-grain toast. Crab Cake, Fish Filet, Salmon BLT, Steak Sandwich, Hot Pastrami, Fried Oyster Sandwich, and Black Bean Burger Wrap are a few of many more sandwich options.
The salad options at BJ’s on the Water are countless. Classic greenery includes House, Greek, and Caesar Salads, while signature selections are Salmon Salad, Steak Caesar, and Shrimply Delish (Caesar topped with Key Largo grilled gulf shrimp). The Crab Meat Chop Salad is comprised of lump crabmeat, bleu cheese crumbles, bacon, onion straws, Romaine, and Ranch dressing. I recommend the Oyster Chesapeake salad, which is the Caesar topped with a half-dozen plump, juicy, flash fried oysters.
Order from the Raw Bar portion of the menu for a fresh sampling of Mussels steamed in butter, garlic, white wine, and thyme. Clams are available raw or steamed. Oysters and Spiced Shrimp are also served.
BJ’s serves its entire menu from 11 AM until 1:30 AM, seven days a week. The bar, which is separated from the dining rooms, celebrates Happy Hour Monday through Friday from 4 PM to 7 PM, plus Late Night Happy Hour Sunday through Thursday from 10 PM to 2 AM. Live bands pack the large dance floor Friday and Saturday nights. Wednesday is the famous BJ’s Deck Party from 4 PM to 8 PM, also with live entertainment. New in 2014, DJ Jeremy spins old school favorites on Thursdays at 9 PM. Customers never pay a cover charge at BJ’s on the Water.
At 1:00 PM, come to BJ’s on the Water for its daily duck feeding. The wildlife sanctuary on BJ’s waterfront includes a platform where ospreys, heron, egrets, ducks, geese, and many other feathered friends dive beak-first into the water to feed. The serene scene is a far cry from the hustle and bustle of car and boat traffic. Owners Billy and Maddy Carder have done a fine job preserving this habitat.
The Carder family has made a remarkable influence on the Ocean City community, including active involvement with the Ocean City Chamber of Commerce. Each year, the restaurant hosts a canoe race, which brings fun-loving staff from restaurants all over the beach to compete. For photos from past races, check out www.bjsonthewater.com. The hallway at BJ’s entrance is donned with framed photographs of staff photos from over the years, dating all the way back to 1979. It’s clear that Billy and Maddy have touched the lives of many friends and families during their 34 years of success.
Make sure to stop at BJ’s on the Water during Ocean City Restaurant Week for award-winning food and entertainment.  Over Time is the live band on tap for Friday night. This fun band will take you through decades of hit music. On Saturday night, Full Circle takes the stage. Rod Stewart tribute artist, Sir Rod, is the entertainment lined up for Wednesday’s deck party. For more information, call 410-524-7575.
