Longtime managers return year after year to work and have fun at Macky’s. Look for them at Tuesday night Theme Parties.
Debuting its new menu in June, Macky’s Bayside Bar & Grill is the hotspot on 54th Street and the Bay where families love to eat lunch and dinner on the waterfront, and where college students love to party late into the night. “Life is Good” at Macky’s. Sensational sunsets on the white sandy beach and preserved wetlands are the perfect backdrop for good food and drinks.
Coconut Times checked out Macky’s inaugural “Life Is Good” music festival this week, sponsored by Bacardi, Evian, Miller Highlife, and hosted by JJ from 93.5 The Beach. This daylong party featured an outdoor deck stage with hot local bands like Galaxy Collective, Hot Sauce Sandwich, Bryan Russo & The Tragic Figures, Bond & Bentley, and more.
When my friends and I arrived at the festival, we recognized familiar friendly faces like Carl and Kristy, longtime managers at Macky’s. We sat under an umbrella at a table on the sandy white beach in the shade of flowing palm trees. It was a beautiful day on the bay. “This is my third summer working here. It’s a really fun place to work,” said our lovely server, Hayley. “You should try the Fish Tacos,” she suggested. Two soft tortillas stuffed with mahi-mahi, prepared blackened or fried, with cabbage, cheddar-jack cheese, pico de gallo, avocado, lime sauce, and rice and beans, the Fish Tacos are a combination of all of my favorite ingredients. Plus, they’re served on a mess-free rack with fries drizzled in honey wasabi sauce.
Something new on the menu that we had the pleasure of previewing is the Marinated Tuna Burger with marinated peaches, pineapple, and onion. The juicy Aioli Tuna Steak on this burger is at least an inch-and-a-half thick, and the marinated fruit topping offers the perfect dab of sweet flavor to the zesty, blackened burger. “I’ll definitely get this again,” said my fiancé, Joey Steward. I 100 percent agree.
While we enjoyed our meal, Chef Joe came out from the kitchen to give me a glimpse of other delicious recipes on the new menu at Macky’s Bayside. On the lunch menu, three new burgers will be available. Black Bean Burger, Caprese Burger (basil pesto, fresh mozzarella, and tomatoes) and Bistro Burger (garlic aioli, grilled onions, blue cheese crumbles, and bacon) are new tasty items. For dinner, come into Macky’s for Crab Au Gratin, Ribs with Corn and Broccoli Slaw, Blackened Tuna with honey wasabi mayo, and Mussels with coco curry sauce.
The new menu features awesome additions, but many of my old favorites remain permanent fixtures on the menu, such as Three Way Sauté—jumbo lump crabmeat, gulf shrimp, fresh sea scallops, vine ripe tomatoes, and mushrooms in a light white wine, herb-butter sauce. Fresh Catch of the Day, Maryland Style Crab Cakes, BBQ Caribbean Shrimp, and Andouille Encrusted Grouper are a few more lip-smacking entrées on the menu.
Delicious sandwiches at Macky’s include Portabella Sandwich, Fried Rockfish (served with Old Bay tarter sauce), South Carolina BBQ, and Buffalo Rooster Sandwich (lightly breaded boneless chicken marinated in zesty buffalo sauce, fried, served with lettuce, tomato, sliced red onion, and blue cheese dressing. Soups include Cream of Crab and Maryland Crab, and sandwiches include Greek, Coconut Shrimp, Boaters Choice, Buffalo Chicken, and more. An array of appetizers, entrées, soups, salads, burgers, pizzas, and fresh catch of the day complement the chef’s daily specials.
Happy Hour is from 3-6 PM every day, featuring $5 food specials and discounted beer, wine, and call and rail drinks. Daredevils are invited to try the 2013 Bomb Squad list. With outrageous concoctions like Doggie Paddle, Hold Your Breath, Slowly Sinking, and Man Overboard! drinks, do you have what it takes to earn a T-shirt?
This weekend, stop by Macky’s for DJ Casper on Friday night and DJ Cowboy on Saturday night. What could be more fun than dancing the night away on Macky’s bayfront deck? On Sunday, try your luck at “Let’s Do Trivia.” Monday is $5 Pizza and drink specials. Create your own pie, or try the Jerk Chicken Pizza with jerk chicken tenderloin, tomato sauce, mozzarella, roasted sweet peppers, and onions.
The best night of the week to check out the wildest party at Macky’s is Tuesday night, when Tuesday Theme Parties return to Macky’s. Discounted Bombs & Natty Lights keep the party going for themes like OC Tourists, Walk of Shame, Superheroes, and Zombies. You must check out the ridiculously fun photos from past theme parties on Macky’s Facebook page,
Wednesday nights at Macky’s are Game & Movie nights. Notorious Little Black Dress parties kickoff at 6:00 on Thursdays with DJ Casper spinning tunes on the deck. Ladies, wear your little black number for awesome drink specials.
The “Life is Good” concert series will be a monthly event throughout the summer at Macky’s. Check Coconut Times for future lineups. On Saturday, June 15, Macky’s will participate in the 2nd Annual Explore the Shore: Ocean City Scavenger Hunt from noon until 8 PM.
