Which one of these lovely ladies will you vote for during the pin-up contest at the Steer Inn on Saturday, May 16?
Full Blown Cherry will rock the Steer Inn on Saturday, May 16.
The Steer Inn Tavern - a little bit country, and a whole lot of rock & roll.
Best Bites. Best bands. Best entertainment. Best chicks in town. Period. The best way to launch off cruiser weekend in Ocean City is at the locals’ favorite spot for hearty food and live bands—the Steer Inn Tavern. Located just minutes from the hustle and bustle of Ocean City, the Steer Inn sits on Racetrack Road (Rt. 589), just off of Route 50.
Kick off cruiser weekend at the Steer during the Rods & Rockers On Wheels car show on Saturday, May 16, from 1 to 5 p.m. While DJ Bigler spins your favorite tunes all day, you are invited to peruse trucks, rat rods, rat bikes, antique cars, and specialty vehicles from the 1970s or earlier. At 3 p.m., a fashion show will awe and inspire attendees, and the audience will determine the “most fashionable rockabilly girl” during a local pin-up contest. Let’s face it. Ocean City is full of beautiful women, and they can’t wait to light up the Steer Inn on Saturday. Then, at 9 p.m., one of my favorite bands of all time, Full Blown Cherry, will pack the dance floor. Look for my best friend, Kristi, and me, Jenny, pouring refreshing adult beverages at the beer wagon in the back during this phenomenal event.
What keeps the Steer Inn at the top of the list of local’s favorite places? Discounted food, friendly staff, and rockin’ entertainment. Some delicious menu items that are sure to tempt your palate include NY Strip, Lump Crab Cake, Ahi Tuna, and an array of Burgers. A Steer Inn signature item, the Shepherd’s Pie is a combination of lamb and beef in a seasoned stock with veggies and mashed potatoes, topped with cheddar cheese. One of my favorites, the Open Faced Roast Beef topped with gravy and seasoned fries, is less than $9, along with the Opened Faced Roasted Turkey Breast. Homemade soups on the Steer Inn’s menu are Maryland Crab Soup and Seafood Jambalaya—chicken, sausage, shrimp, scallops, rice, and tomatoes in a zesty broth.
Sure to satisfy appetites of all sizes, the Steer Inn menu offers Munchies—like Chicken Quesadilla and Lump Crab Dip—Salads, and Sandwiches & Wraps, too. The Mediterranean Roasted Turkey Wrap is a delicious combination of warm, roasted, Greek-seasoned turkey breast with ranch cucumber sauce, feta cheese, and chopped olives. Named after one of the owner’s, Skip’s Almost Famous Cuban Sandwich is a mouth-watering concoction of ham, pork roll, Swiss cheese, sliced pickle, and spiced bistro sauce on warm, pressed cibatta. The list of sandwiches goes on and on, including such temptations as Chicken Parmesan Sub, Ruebens, Cheesesteaks, and Crab Cake Sandwich. Try your sandwich on a garlic herb wrap for extra flavor.
Most of the items on the Steer Inn’s menu are less than $10. But that doesn’t stop the friendly husband-and-wife owners, Skip and Tracey, from offering weekly specials to customers. Monday through Thursday, enjoy $5.89 dinner specials from 5 to 9 p.m. on Open Faced Turkey or Roast Beef, Fish & Chips, and Seafood Jambalaya with House Salad. Tijuana Tuesdays is one of the best deals in town, offering a Tex-Mex dinner (burritos, tacos, quesadillas, and more) for $5.89, plus $2.50 Coronas, Corona Lights, and Margaritas. Wednesdays are ladies night, with $2 drink specials, DJ Deogee, and a special treat for the gentlemen. Irresistible food and drink specials are available every day for Happy Hour from 4-7 p.m.
While the lengthy menu keeps locals coming through the Steer Inn door from 11 a.m. ‘til close, year ‘round, it’s the entertainment that really packs the place. Owners Skip and Tracey have booked such renowned acts as Full Blown Cherry, Daryl Davis, Brokedown Playboys, Smokin’ Gunz, Whiskey Train, Jimbo Manion, The Ultra Kings, Reverb Galaxy, and The Lucky Daredevil Thrillshow. Touting themselves as “a little bit country, and a whole lot of rock & roll,” the Steer Inn is the best spot in town to dance all night to classic rock & roll, rockabilly, tribute bands, Southern rock, surf rock, and jump blues.
Keep checking the Coconut Times for upcoming shows at the Steer Inn, including The Fustics on Friday, May 22; Whiskey Train on Saturday, May 23; Crossroads on Friday, May 29; Full Circle on Saturday, May 30; Rockabilly Weekender with Johnny Carlevale & The Rollin’ Pinsand on Friday, June 5; and Full Blown Cherry with special guest Professor Ouch & his Oddities on Saturday, June 6. Other popular bands that will return to the Steer Inn this summer are Loud Love, Tranzfusion, The Bushmaster, Lower Case Blues, Dr. Harmonica & Rockett 88, The Young Werewolves, The Bullets, and The Winchesters. Plus, the Steer Inn is quickly becoming the hottest spot in town on Thursday nights during its Open Mic/Band Jam with a full rig, PA, drum kit, monitors, and mics for all musicians and bands to rock the house.
As if all of this isn’t enough incentive for you to visit the Steer Inn Tavern, they have even more fun to offer you. An extensive area with pool tables, shuffle bowl, televisions, trivia, and KENO accompanies the large dance floor and dining room. A heated covered deck is smoker-friendly, and large roosters and chicks roam the grounds behind the tavern.
Remember to look for me during the Rods & Rockers On Wheels car show on Saturday, May 16. I will be in the back waiting to pour your favorite adult refreshment. Say hello and mention this article for an extra big smile. And come hungry. The Crabby Burger, topped with Lump Crab Cake, is the best way to fuel up your energy while you admire the vintage vehicles and fashion at the Steer Inn Tavern. I’m sure you’ll agree. The Steer Inn Tavern is best bites and best entertainment, just outside of Ocean City. See you there.
