While it’s hard to believe that the 29th season of Coconut Times has come to a close, Mother Nature is leaving no doubt that winter is definitely upon us. Everything is slowing down, trees and flowers going dormant, and I’m feeling the need for some down time myself. Not before the spate of parties is over, though, right? So far, it’s been a blast.
Teenage Rust & The Fabulous Rustettes were awesome at BJ’s Christmas party, we always love to hear Randy Lee Ashcraft & the Salt Water Cowboys who played for Johnny’s party, and Kevin Poole & The Gang were equally awesome at Fager’s Island. I’m so impressed that Kevin’s little boys, Chase & Devin, are not afraid to get up on stage and sing with their dad - little pros already ... and adorable. Call me biased, though, that I think the Coconut Times party was best of all in the music department. We heard from so many artists who happily jammed together for a great time. I’m afraid to mention names as I might leave someone out. You can see many of them in the pictures in this this issue. Thank you all for coming and adding your incredible talents to a special night. And thank you to Galaxy 66 owners Tammy & Roger and to the staff for hosting the party this year.
You know, I’ve been doing this column for more than 20 years, beginning at the Dispatch in 1992 and carrying on when I joined and later came to own Coconut Times in 1993. It has been my privilege and pleasure to serve our community both in helping to promote our businesses and also in supporting and promoting our local musicians. In fact, as most of you know, that is my passion as I’m an erstwhile performer myself. And, by the way, thanks to all the bands who allow me to ‘do my thing’. Anyway, it is only by patronizing businesses who provide live music, and making sure those proprietors know that’s why you’re there, that we will continue to enjoy the best musical community you’ll find anywhere.
My wish and prayer for all of you is a happy and healthy holiday. May you all be safe on your travels and keep it in your hearts and minds why we celebrate One very special birthday. Love one another as He loves us. Remember, you can still view Who’s Where When on
coconuttimes.com while we’re not in print in Jan. See you in 2015. Love to you all!!
